There have been over 300 complaints about gas billing issues to the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) since April.
Former OFT chairman, John Wannenburgh said that 18 of the complainants were recorded as being 'vulnerable', with most being distressed and confused as they hadn't received bills or couldn't understand them.
Taking to social media, Sarah Maltby Douglas South MHK said she’d been approached by a number of concerned constituents who have been given notice that their standing order or direct debit for IOM Energy should be increased or they risk having their gas connection cut off.
She also expressed her concerns regarding the closure of the IOM Energy reception desk.
Mrs Malty queried if this move will now ‘enable the Counter Services operators to answer the telephone calls from customers and if additional Customer Services telephone operators will be recruited to support the additional demand which should now be expected’.
