Damage following the storm

Yesterday (November 13) the gusts of up-to 80mph that came with Storm Debi brought down 50 trees on the Isle of Man.

Teams from the Department of Infrastructure (DOI) dealt with 47 of these, whilst the remainder were cleared by crews from Manx Utilities as they were in and around overhead lines.  

The teams dealt flooding with at two locations in Bride and Andreas and our jetters and sweepers were out clearing  emerging issues. Many of its ongoing planned schemes were paused whilst staff were redeployed to deal with storm response work.

Areas that are still undergoing work following the storm are as follows:

  • Church Road in Port Erin is closed due to falling slates from buildings. It will be closed to traffic until at least this morning. Pedestrians are advised to avoid walking in this area.
  • Part of the lane at the side of Lancaster Road, Douglas is closed and barriered due to the danger of falling masonry. This has been closed for up to a week so that a building can be made safe by the owner.
