This weekend saw Storm Elin make herself known across the Isle of Man, which led to quite the busy time for teams from the Department of Infrastructure (DOI).
The DOI’s duty officer had 125 weather related calls on Saturday (December 9) alone, due to flooded areas and fallen trees.
Saturday morning saw surface water flooding which tended to be in the north of the Island.
In the afternoon and evening, as the wind got up the teams dealt with 28 trees that had come down on or near roads.
In order to mitigate the impact on the public and get these dealt with as soon as possible the DOI duty officer supplemented on-call teams with teams from local tree surgery firms.
In any instance where overhead power cables were affected Manx Utilities team attended to make safe and then restore power.
Today (December 11) it has diverted staff from other winter maintenance work to complete the clear up.
